Five Points West Hipcamp
Five Points West is a grassy camping area with a
pavilion, community firepit, and indoor bathrooms.
Students in 2023 found it and loved it.
Proud Lake State Recreation Area
The Huron River runs through Proud Lake State Rec Area,
and it offers a number of lodging options. There's
camping, mini camping cabins, and, for groups, River
Hawk Lodge (sleeps 24). There are alluring pics of
the mini cabins and River hawk Lodge
here (scroll down to
see the pics). If someone wants to rent the mini
camping cabins or Riverhawk
Lodge and make space open to others, I'll help let
people know. Do note that this campground is more
crowded/less rustic (there will be RVs) than the others, but I believe it's
the only one open in April.
Highland State Recreation Area
Another state campground;
perhaps 15ish minutes north of Proud Lake, with rustic
camping options. PLEASE NOTE that
the campground may not be open in late winter/early
spring (so please check in advance).
Bass Lake Lodge (see below) is at Highland and is
awesome.
Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area
More rustic state park
camping, maybe 20-25 minutes from Proud Lake.

winter/early spring.

available/affordable this is the absolute best option
around!
Highland State Recreation
area has a cabin available for rental, which sleeps 6
in bunks (but could fit more) and has a kitchen and bathroom. I'd advise
booking as early as possible to ensure availability. If someone wanted
to rent this and wanted me to let other participants
know so they could split the costs, I'd be happy to.
