exploration into the world of plant medicines at
Deanne Bednar's Strawbale Studio in
Oxford, MI (just south of Lapeer & north of Lake Orion).
David will share his
deeply rooted knowledge of herbal virtues and a truly
holistic perspective on herbs as both teachers and
healers, enlightened by his expertise in Eclectic Western,
Traditional Chinese and Cherokee Herbal Medicine.
Some of the weekends
explorations will include...
.: Friday Evening from 7 till 9:30 :.
The Worst of Weeds, the
Best of Medicines...
David will share how the plants we often disparage as
nuisances or demonize as invasives are often profoundly
effective but underutilized medicines.
.:
Saturday from 10 till 12:30
:.
Eclectic & Botanical Protocols for
Mental Health... In
our culture talking about mental illness is a rather
recent phenomenon, but the experience of mental illness is
as old as human existence. Over the ages various
emotional/psychological problems have been given many
diverse names (madness, hysteria, "the vapors", lunacy,
the blues, melancholia...) and associated with many causes
(the moon, being female, self-abuse, emotional
weakness...).
Understanding how specific herbs uniquely address specific
manifestations of depression and anxiety can drastically
improve our results in treating it. David will
discuss useful herbs primarily drawn from Eclectic sources
with an occasional "new" remedy drawn from his own
clinical experience.
.:
Saturday from 2 till 5
:.
The Use
of Herbs for Treating Chronic
Back Pain...
Chronic back & neck pain are very common & the leading
cause of missed work in the US. Orthodox medicine often
does not offer significant relief &, while chiropractic &
massage therapy can offer real benefits, the use of herbs
in addition to these body centered therapies can offer
greater pain relief as well as correcting the underlying
causes of muscle and spinal pain.
.:
Sunday from 10 till 3
:.
Talking Leaves ~ An Indigenous Language of Plants...
David will share how plants speak to us, and how to listen
so that we may learn what they offer to teach us.
